COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Capital University women's basketball team (2-2, 0-0 OAC) was back at the Cap Center on Tuesday night, hosting Wooster (1-4, 0-0 NCAC) for a pre-Thanksgiving Break matchup. Despite poor shooting early on, the Comets caught fire in the final three quarters, forcing 31 turnovers in total which led to 39 points on the other end and coasting out to a 78-53 victory.
HOW IT HAPPENED
The Comets struggled to put the ball in the basket in the early going with seemingly every shot falling offline. As a result, Wooster was ahead at the first break 21-9. However, the Comets would heat up in the second quarter, increasing their percentage to 37.5% from the field and adding four three-pointers. All-in-all, the Comets outscored the Scots 22-6 in the period and would take a 31-27 lead into halftime.
Bri O'Connor (7 PTS) and
Katie Burke (6 PTS) led the scoring efforts.
Cap kept it going in the third quarter, once again outscoring the Scots 26-7. The Comets shot 11-of-17 (64.7%) from the field. This time it was
Demi Brewer (6 PTS) and
Laney Murphy (5 PTS) on the offensive in the period. Capital's bench would come on to play a big role in the third quarter, led by newcomer
Kendall Spreen with eight points off of 3-for-4 shooting including going 2-of-3 from behind the arc. When it was all said and done, the Comets had only added on to their lead, heading home with a 78-53 win.
