GRANVILLE, Ohio – The Capital University women's basketball team (3-2, 0-0 OAC) was back in action on Wednesday night, traveling to Denison (4-2, 0-0 NCAC) for their first matchup after the Thanksgiving break. The Comets would come away with a big win over the Big Red, 77-64.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Capital came out of the gates hot, putting up 25 points in the first quarter and holding Denison to just 17. The Comets were aided by a 14-4 run starting just around the 6-minute mark and led by
Laney Murphy with 8 points. Overall CU shot just under 50% at 8-for-17 from the field. Murphy would finish the quarter with 12 while
Bri O'Connor scored nine. The second quarter was not quite as illustrious as Capital increased the lead by just two points, heading into halftime up by 10, 37-27.
The Comets would come out of the break to have their two best quarters shooting-wise, going 8-for-14 (57.1%) in the third and 6-of-10 (60.0%) in the fourth. The Purple and White put together a 19-7 run in the third quarter to increase their lead to 58-43 heading into the final period. The fourth quarter would be the only quarter in which Capital would be outscored – but not by much – as Denison was only able to decrease their deficit by two points. Thus the game ended in the Comets' favor, 77-64.
