Game Recap: Women's Basketball |

Women’s Hoops Stumbles in Pittsburgh

PITTSBURGH, Pa. – The Capital University women's basketball team traveled to Pittsburgh for their second road game in a row and third game of the week, where they fell behind early and couldn't quite catch-up, eventually falling 81-76 at the final horn.

The loss slips Capital back to 1-2 on the year while the Tartans improve to 3-1.

The start of the contest was a stalemate for more than four minutes as the first score of the game came with 5:45 left in the first quarter. From there, both teams struggled offensively through the early goings, but eventually settled down as the score read 15-10 in favor of the hosts at the end of one.

In the second quarter, Cap came alive and out-scored CMU 22-19, to close the gap to just two points at the halftime intermission. That momentum from the Comets carried into the third quarter as Capital flipped the score into a one point lead with 10 minutes left to play.

Unfortunately in the fourth quarter the momentum swung in favor of the hosts as Carnegie Mellon closed the game on a 5-0 run over the final 4:38 of action as the Comets rested with their 76 points at the end.
