COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Capital University men's tennis team finished out their fall season this afternoon by hosting Franklin College at Whetstone Park of Roses – their first home match of the season.
The Comets fell to the Grizzlies 8-1 in the end, with the lone point coming from
Colin Welch's first win of the season.
Franklin took the three available points at doubles.
Thomas Secrist and
Spencer Surles fell 8-2,
Jesse Stevens and
Colin Welch lost 8-6, and
Jackson Havel and
Alex Rowley dropped their match 8-1.
In singles play, the Comets struggled to get the upper hand, but had some close matches. Secrist fell 6-3, 6-1. Surles took his match to three sets but lost 2-6, 7-5, 0-1. Stevens fell 6-1, 6-4. Welch won his three-set match 6-4, 2-6, 1-0. Havel lost 6-4, 6-2.
Nicholas Wines rounded it out with a loss at the sixth spot, 6-2, 6-4.
The Comets conclude the fall slate with an overall record of 0-4. The team will be back in action in late January as they travel to the nationally prominent Denison University on the 28th. Spring times are yet to be determined but will be posted to the team's schedule page as soon as they are available.
