Women’s Soccer Scores 2-0 Win Over Wilmington

WILMINGTON, Ohio – The Capital University women's soccer team took to the road on Wednesday night, traveling to Wilmington College. There, the Comets defeated the Quakers 2-0 thanks to a first half goal from Grace Estes, a second half own goal and a nine-save clean sheet from Liv Alford

Capital's record improves to 6-5-1 overall and 1-1 in the OAC. Wilmington drops to 7-3-1 and 0-2 in the conference.

The Comets got on the board in the 12th minute of action as the team worked a nice sequence of one-touch plays to yield the goal. First, Francesca Longano cut inside and sent a pass to Nicole Ogden. There, Ogden one-touched the ball over the defense right to Lexi Snider. Snider's first touch went across goal and was then met by a one-touch finish from Grace Estes

The goal marked the eighth of the season for Estes, while the assist was the third of the year from Snider.

The Comet lead held for much of the game, while the defense was forced into a bit of work for the middle part of the game. Despite the pressure, the back link and goalkeeper Liv Alford didn't waiver, keeping the Quakers at bay thus far.

In the 79th minute of play, Capital would double their lead with a crucial insurance goal. Catherine Zugaro received a pass from Ele Shalawylo and sent a shot on goal. Her shot was saved by the Quaker goalie, but the save ricocheted off a Wilmington defender and into the net for the own goal.

After the goal, Capital's defense again held up strong, keeping WIlmington scoreless over the course of the 90 minutes. Alford was credited with a career-high matching nine saves in the match.
