COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Capital University volleyball team closed out the 2023 season celebrating Senior Day inside The Capital Center. Unfortunately for the Comets, the result on the court did not yield a winning result as the visiting Baldwin Wallace Yellow Jackets emerged with the 3-0 win.
Capital concludes their season with a 6-19 record and an 0-9 mark in the OAC. BW improved to 12-12 overall and 5-4 in the conference.
Overall, BW took the sets in order 25-9, 25-15, and 25-16 behind a blistering .314 hitting percentage that saw them land 41 kills and just nine errors. On the other end, Capital managed an even percentage on 22 kills and 22 errors.
In total,
Larissa Smith and
Simone Daniel led the Comets with five kills each. They were followed by
Alissa Holler (4),
Samaree Perkins (3),
Lindsay Rich (2), and
Bryn Whitmer (2).
Whitmer set up 14 assists on the day and was supported by
Kenadee Winters (3) and
Abby Brunner (2).
Larissa Smith had three blocks, including one by herself. Holler, Daniel, Whitmer and
Audrey James were each in on a block assist as well.
Brunner led the back row with 17 digs and she was supported by
Olivia Spillers (7), Winters (6),
Makenna Sullivan (3) and
Michaela Recker (3).
Smith and Perkins landed the only two service aces of the day for Capital.
SENIOR DAY
Prior to the match and throughout the day, Capital volleyball celebrated the accomplishments of seniors
Lindsay Rich,
Alissa Holler,
Audrey James and
Michaela Recker. The team hosted a breakfast in the Cap Center and then cut cake after the game to thank those four for their contributions to the program.
