Men’s Soccer Upsets No. 16 John Carroll on the Road

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio – The Capital University men's soccer team traveled to No. 16 John Carroll on Saturday evening and pulled off a momentous upset of the Blue Streaks.

The win for the Comets marked their first over John Carroll since a 1-0 decision at Bernlohr Stadium in 2018. It was Cap's first win in University Heights since the 2015 season when they won 2-1.
With the result, Capital improves to 8-6-1 overall and 2-4-1 in the OAC. JCU drops to 11-4-1 on the year and 5-2 in the conference.

The Comets got on the board early courtesy of an 8th minute Mujahid Abdel-Ghani goal. Jacob Deever won the ball in the midfield and found Jack Kossoudji who played it over the top to Abdel-Ghani. With one touch, Muj would pop the ball over and past the keeper with the left foot for the goal.

Capital put another one up just a few minutes later in the 12th minute via a free kick from Jarrett Puckett. After a foul in the John Carroll defensive zone, Puckett set up for the shot around 26 yards away. Puckett put his shot around the wall and tucked it away into the lower left of the net to give Cap a 2-0 advantage.

After halftime, Capital added to their lead at the hour mark as Jack Kossoudji scored his seventh goal of the season. Kossoudji led a counterattack and dished a pass wide to Devon Hess. Hess then centered for Abdel-Ghani who slid a one-time pass through to Kossoudji who slipped a shot into the lower left hand corner to put the Comets ahead 3-0.

With insurance in hand, Capital eased their offensive pressure slightly, and eventually conceded one  goal to JCU's Patrick Koenig in the 68th minute of play. After conceding, Cap re-focused and kept the Blue Streaks scoreless over the final 22 minutes of action.

Overall, Jack Kossoudji and Mujahid Abdel-Ghani each finished with one goal and one assist, while Jacob Deever also added an assist. Jarrett Puckett scored his fifth goal of the year in the game as well.

Ethan Ogden ended with two saves.
