COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Capital University men's soccer team (7-5-1, 1-3-1 OAC) matched up with No. 12 Mount Union (12-1-1, 3-1-1 OAC) on Saturday in what was an extremely physical contest, only enhanced by the elements. The game would not be decided until the final 10 minutes with the Comets ending up on the wrong side the scoreboard, 3-1.
After a scoreless first half,
Derrick Harris put Capital ahead in the 49th minute. It came following a Cap corner that bounced around the box for a bit. Harris – finding himself in the right spot at the right time – was able to muscle it into the back of the net for the score.
Mount Union would draw even a little over ten minutes later in the 60th minute, adding fuel to the already fiery back-and-forth between the two teams. The Comets nearly added another in the 74th minute but the shot from
Jack Francisco slipped just outside the post. Then – just seven minutes later – the Purple Raiders put in what would end up being the deciding goal in the 81st minute, adding another in the 90th minute to put the game out of reach.
Harris' goal was his fourth of the season and was unassisted.
Ethan Ogden (6-5-1) tended to the goal for the full 90 minutes, making six saves.
