SANDUSKY, Ohio – The Capital University volleyball team wrapped up its trip to Cedar Point with a double-header against Adrian and Thiel. Despite a tough effort put up by the Comets, things did not end up bouncing their way and they unfortunately dropped both games in straight sets. Capital's record now stands at 1-3 on the young season.
MATCH ONE: Adrian wins 3-0 (25-19, 26-24, 25-18)
Capital's day was off to a rough start dropping the first set by six points. However, the second set was much more tightly contested and the Comets were right in it until the end, forcing Adrian over the 25-point prerequisite for victory. Unfortunately, the last set did not go Cap's way and the Purple and White dropped the match 3-0.
On the offensive end, Capital tallied 24 kills.
Audrey James (7), Allisa Holler (5), and Simon Daniel (3) led the squad in the kill column.
Reagan Willoughby was lights out from behind the serving line, recording five of the team's seven total aces.
On defense, the Comets recorded six blocks. Daniel (4),
Caleigh Hamby (2), and
Lindsay Rich (1) led the way on the defensive front.
The Purple and White shared the ball well, racking up 27 total assists. Willoughby (13),
Jordyn Hoffman (9), and
Abby Brunner were the top assist-getters on the team.
Finally, in terms of digs, Cap kept 60 total balls from hitting the ground. Brunner (13),
Paree Furness (11), and Hoffman (8) were the go to players for getting the ball up.
MATCH TWO: Thiel wins 3-0 (26-24, 25-21, 25-21)
Match two was a little bit closer for the Comets, nearly matching Thiel point for point until the very end. Once again they forced their opponents past the 25-point minimum in set one. Sets two and three were also tightly contested, but both ended at 25-21. Thiel would go on to win the match 3-0.
Capital once again clocked in for 24 kills on the offensive end. A very similar set of Comets also led the category in match two as well.
Audrey James (8),
Lindsay Rich (7), and Allisa Holler (3) converted the majority of the Cap attacks.
The Purple and White were on fire from behind the line, notching 12 aces for the match.
Paree Furness (3),
Lindsay Rich (3), and
Larissa Smith (2) were the toughest to beat as the led the squad in scoring off the serve.
On defense, the Comets recorded three blocks.
Simone Daniel (2),
Larissa Smith (2),
Lindsay Rich (1), and
Caleigh Hamby shared in the feast up front.
The Comets dished out 22 assists in match two.
Reagan Willoughby (10) and
Jordyn Hoffman (8) led the way in setting up spikes.
Cap was able to dig up 44 balls in the second match.
Abby Brunner (11) and Furness (10) both broke into the double digits for digs.

Capital will hit the road for one more away contest on Wednesday as they travel to Wooster for a 7 p.m. contest. After the midweek contest, Capital will come home on Friday, September 9th and Saturday, September 10th for the Pam Briggs Classic. The Comets will play three matches across the two days, while hosting six other teams throughout the weekend as well.
