SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – The Capital University women's soccer team traveled to Wittenberg University for their final non-conference match of the season on Wednesday night, leaving with a 1-1 draw.
Capital will enter OAC play with a 4-2-1 record. Wittenberg's record now stands at 1-6-3.
The Comets dominated the match as far as possession and quality scoring chances are considered, but one breakaway in the first half allowed the hosts to garner a 1-0 lead, forcing Capital to play catch-up for the remainder of the way. Wittenberg's goal came from Alex Hill as she slotted past
Lauren White in goal on a one v one opportunity.
Despite playing from behind, Capital still pushed forward the more aggressor. Really good chances to level came in the 50th minute as
Haley Moore hit the frame and
Madeline Woodruff forced the Tigers' goalie into a sharp save from a deep shot.
With the pressure on, the Comets finally found restitution in the 80th minute as
Sophia Leonetti found space at the top of the box and laced a left-footed shot to the lower left corner of the goal to even the score at 1-1. The goal was her first of the season.
Madeline Woodruff was credited with the assist on the goal -- her second helper of the year.
From there, the Comets pressed for more, but wouldn't garner a clean look at goal. In the process,
Liv Alford upheld the tied score with a save on Olivia Kuhner's shot in the 90th minute.
Alford made three saves in the second half of the match, while starter
Lauren White made one save in the first half. Wittenberg's Badin Clark made seven saves in the opposite goal.
