COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Capital University women's tennis team played their final match of the 2022 fall campaign this evening, winning convincingly 7-2 over Mount Vernon Nazarene University.
The match was played on the first fall night of 2022, which surely didn't disappoint as it was a brisk evening, making playing conditions just a bit more challenging. Despite the cooler weather, the Comets staved off three third set tiebreakers to convincingly win the match and move to 3-2 heading into the winter break.
DOUBLES
The Comets got on top early, taking two of the three doubles matches.
Anna Fletcher and
Nicole Flock defeated Emily Allison and Audrey Cochran at #1 doubles with a score of 8-6.
The third doubles spot of
Amy Wright-Lovell and
Jenny Rollins won easily 8-0 over Megan Vollrath and Lilian Volk.
The second doubles pairing of
Josie Nichols and
Kylee Fliter fell in a tiebreaker 8-7. The tiebreaker point went in favor of the Cougars 7-4.
SINGLES
In singles play, the Comets commanded play taking five of the available six points and staying composed to win the three tiebreakers they were faced with.
Anna Fletcher won #1 over Hannah Fugate 6-2, 3-6, 1-0 (10-7).
Nicole Flock defeated Audrey Cochran at #2 by a score of 3-6, 6-1, 1-0 (10-5). Amy Wright Lovell won #4 singles 6-2, 6-3 over Emma Harville.
Kylee Fliter took the marathon #5 singles match 6-4, 6-7 (6-8), 1-0 (12-10) over Megan Vollrath.
Ella McGlynn won the #6 match-up with Lilian Volk 6-1, 6-2.
The lone blemish for Capital went to MVNU's Emily Allison at #3 singles 6-4, 6-3 over
Josie Nichols.
