COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Capital University women's soccer team returned home for a head-to-head with Hanover on Saturday. Things did not go the Comet's way with the Panthers as a struggle to maintain possession and push forward left the Comets with a 0-3 losing decision.
The Purple and White fall to 3-2-0 and suffer their first home loss of the season.
Hanover climbs to 3-2-0.
HOW IT HAPPENED
Capital got off to a slow start both offensively and defensively. Several mistakes in the midfield kept the Comets from pushing forward while also allowing Hanover to advance deep into the defensive zone and put pressure on the net. Eventually that pressure would break through as the Panthers took the lead just nine and a half minutes into the game off of a goal from Beth Cook. The Purple and White pulled together for a chance to pull back even, but the chance never came and the half ended with the score 1-0 in favor of Hanover.
Things were not much better in the second half as the Comets continued to struggle to keep hold of the ball. That being said, Cap was able to string together more passes in the period, with even some opportunities to push forward and get some scoring chances. Unfortunately, those chances would not pan out and the Comets would remain scoreless. To make matters worse, the Panthers added two more goals to their lead and put the game out of reach in the later stages. The game ended with a final tally of 3-0 to Hanover.
