Men’s Soccer on Wrong End of 3-1 Score at Wittenberg

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – The Capital University men's soccer team traveled to Wittenberg University on Saturday afternoon where the Comets fell by a final score of 3-1 to the host Tigers.

The result pushed Capital back to a 1-4 record to begin the campaign this year.

Despite the result, Capital handled much of the upper hand in the game, but a 13 minute period of play in the second half doomed the Comets attempt at a road win. Overall, Capital out-shot Wittenberg 20-8, which included an 8-4 edge in shots on target.

Even with the consistent offense, Capital couldn't find the back of the net until after falling behind 3-0. In the 61st minute of play, Wittenberg's Nick Harding broke the deadlock with a finish off a pass from Aaron Craddock. Just six minutes later, Craddock doubled the hosts' advantage with a goal of his own. The outpouring of goals from Wittenberg didn't end there as Kees Ciric netted a penalty kick goal in the 74th minute. To make matters worse, Capital went down to 10-men in the game while conceding the spot kick.

Down a man and in the hole on the scoreboard, Capital eventually got a consolation goal, coming off the foot of Jack Francisco. The goal was Francisco's second of the season and second in as many games as he also scored the Comets' lone goal during the midweek affair with Denison University.
