COLUMBUS, Ohio – Throughout the week, Capital University Athletics, in conjunction with the Alumni Office, has announced the 2022 Hall of Fame Induction Class.

The five inductees to the 2022 class include representatives from four different programs – men's soccer, women's soccer, women's track and field, and men's tennis. This year's inductees are …
  • Dwight Burgess - Men's and Women's Soccer Coach
  • Molly (Sheils) Mosholder - Women's Soccer

  • Matt Rutherford - Men's Tennis

Notably, Rutherford and DiRosario are the first two men's tennis players to be inducted into the Hall of Fame, while Mosholder is the second women's soccer player, and Holloman is the third from women's track and field. Burgess will go in for both men's soccer and women's soccer, making him the fifth for the men's program and third for the women's program.

This class of five inductees will officially be enshrined in the Capital University Hall of Fame on Saturday, September 24th at 9:30 a.m. in a breakfast ceremony as part of Homecoming Weekend. The class will then again be recognized later that day at halftime of the Homecoming football game against Wilmington which kicks off at 1:30 p.m.

ABOUT THE INDUCTEES
Burgess, a native of Falls Church, Virginia, served Capital's soccer programs for 10 years from 2000 until 2010. During that time period, Burgess oversaw the men's program for a full 10 seasons, while managing the women's program for eight years. At the helm of the men's program, Burgess led the program to the 2007 and 2008 OAC Regular Season Championships, while also guiding the team to the 2009 OAC Tournament Championship. The 2009 team also qualified for the NCAA Tournament – their first postseason appearance in program history.  He was named as the NSCAA Great Lakes Region Coach of the Year and the OSCA Division III Coach of the Year in 2007. In the OAC, Dwight was named the conference's Coach of the Year in 2005 and again in 2009.

For the women's program, Burgess guided the team to the 2004 OAC Regular Season Championship, and the 2006 and 2007 OAC Tournament Championships. The '06 and '07 teams also garnered NCAA Tournament qualification under Dwight's leadership. Burgess was named the OAC women's soccer Coach of the Year in 2006. Combined between the men's and women's programs, Burgess stacked up a career record at Capital of 186-145-33, including an 87-63-12 OAC record.

Off the field, Dwight spent 24 seasons (1996-2020) serving as the color commentator for Columbus Crew television broadcasts. Currently, he resides in Powell, Ohio with his wife Julie, and he credits the support of the entire Capital community as helping him to get to where he is today, under the mantra of "It takes a village." Today, Dwight coaches the men's soccer program at Wittenberg University.

Mosholder (nee Sheils), a 2010 Capital graduate and native of Centerville, Ohio, hauled in accolades while with the Purple and White, and became one of the most decorated Capital women's soccer players to come through the program. As a freshman, Sheils was named third team All-Region and All-Ohio, and first team All-OAC. One year later, she upped the ante, being named All-OAC first team, Academic All-OAC, and All-Ohio Academic first team. In 2008, she took another step forward earning All-OAC first team, Academic All-OAC, All-Ohio second team, NSCAA All-Region Scholar third team, and All-Region second team.

Once more, Sheils out-performed her previous year as a senior, being named an NSCAA All-American third team selection as well as an NSCAA Scholar All-American second team honoree. Aside from the national honors, Molly also earned All-Region first team, CoSIDA Academic All-District, the OAC Midfielder of the Year award, All-OAC first team, Academic All-OAC, and All-Ohio first team during her final season with the Purple and White. Additionally, in the spring of 2010, Sheils was selected as Capital's female recipient of the prestigious OAC Clyde Lamb Award – an honor given to a male and female senior student-athlete who holds a minimum 3.00 GPA and exhibits sportsmanlike conduct in a manner that brought credit to his or her institution.

Now living in Columbus, Molly is married to her husband of five years Daniel. The couple has a daughter named Emerson and is expecting their second child in February of 2023. They also have a furbaby – a one-year old goldendoodle named Quinn. She currently works as the Assistant Director of Accessibility Services at Columbus State Community College. She has worked at CSCC for nine years after she completed a Masters Degree and Graduate Assistantship at Clemson University in their student disability services office. Mosholder credits her time at Capital as helping to instill the values of commitment, team work, and perseverance – all which have helped shape her into the person she is today. She says she is forever grateful for her time at Capital and the friendships and connections formed along the way.

Holloman (nee Starks), a 2010 graduate and native of Akron, Ohio, made her name in the short sprinting events while on the track & field team at Capital. A five-time outdoor All-American and 14-time NCAA Qualifier, Jessica holds four school records and sits second all-time in a fifth event. In 2008, Holloman earned three All-American honors at the outdoor national championships where she finished fifth in the 200 meter dash, seventh in the 100 meter dash, and was the second leg in the 4x100 meter relay that placed eighth overall. A year later at the 2009 national championships, Jessica placed eighth in the 200 meter dash and was again a member of the 4x100 meter relay team, this time finishing third overall. Jessica is one of the few student-athletes to compete at four national championship events, qualifying in at least two events each year she was in the program. On top of her outdoor success, Holloman also qualified to the 2008 and 2009 indoor national championships in the 55 and 60 meter dash events.

In the OAC, Jessica was named the 2007 Most Outstanding Sprint Athlete at the outdoor championships. Additionally, she was a recipient of the 2007 USTFCCCA All-Academic award.

On the Capital record boards, Jessica is the current school record holder in four events. Indoors, she holds the fastest time in the 55 meter dash (7.27 seconds) and the 60 meter dash (7.73 seconds). Outdoors, she boasts the top time in the 100 meter dash (12.02 seconds) and the 200 meter dash (24.66 seconds). Additionally, she is second all-time in the indoor 200 meter event with a time of 26.08 seconds.

Jessica now resides in Columbus with her husband Alvin Jr. and her children Alivia, Aloni, Christian, Aaron, and Arianna. She works as an Accounting Coordinator with CME Federal Credit Union heading up the ACH and payroll areas for the company. She is currently studying for her AAP certification as well. Jessica credits her time as a student-athlete at Capital with helping her understand her self-awareness. She began thinking about the things she truly wanted out of life while at Capital, and having her improved self-awareness, she has allowed herself to continually try new things and discover new interests personally, socially, and professionally.

Rutherford, a 2001 graduate of Capital and native of nearby Upper Arlington, Ohio, paired with fellow inductee Doug DiRosario as arguably one of the best duos to step foot on a tennis court wearing Capital colors. Rutherford was a 2001 ITA All-American in both singles and doubles, while also qualifying for the NCAA Individual Championships in singles that same year. A three-time OAC Individual Champion, Rutherford helped lead his team to their first OAC Team Championship in program history in 2001. That same year, Matt was named the OAC Player of the Year.

Also on the national stage, Rutherford made his presence felt at the 2000 ITA Small College Fall Nationals Qualifier and at the 2000 ITA Central Regional Championships. Rutherford placed seventh in the singles event at Small College Nationals, before pairing with DiRosario to place eighth in the doubles competition. At the Regional Championships, Rutherford again paired with DiRosario to win the doubles, and then Rutherford defeated DiRosario in the finals of the singles competition.

Matt currently resides in Lewis Center, Ohio with his wife Sara and children Luke, Ben, and Caleb. He is a high school math teacher and head boys tennis coach at Olentangy Orange High School. Matt says having professors and coaches at Capital that took a personal interest in his learning have helped positively impact his teaching and coaching style. The time they took to get to know him as a student and athlete helped him get to where he is today. He credits the assistance of Professors Barbara Keller, Marie-Madeline Stey, and Jane Baldwin, as well as coaches Scott Welsh and Shaun Stamps as individuals who poured into him wholistically and encouraged him to reach for lofty goals. This experience at Capital is allowing Matt to have a similar impact on his students today.

DiRosario, another 2001 graduate of Capital and native of Columbus, Ohio, was the other piece of the pairing to comprise arguably the best duo to compete on a tennis court for CU. A 2001 ITA All-American in doubles alongside Matt Rutherford, DiRosario was a four-time OAC Individual Champion, as well as an NCAA Individual Qualifier. In 2000, Doug won both his singles and doubles quest at the OAC Championships. He paired with Matt Lazar to win the doubles competition that year. A season later, DiRosario paired with Rutherford and once again won the #1 doubles competition. Individually, DiRosario won the 2001 #2 singles bracket as well. Doug qualified for the NCAA Individual Championships, making the 1999 event in singles.

Much like his fellow inductee, Rutherford, Doug competed in the 2000 ITA Small College Fall Nationals Qualifiers and the ITA Central Regional Championships. At Small College Nationals, he paired with Rutherford to place eighth in doubles. At the Regional Championships, DiRosario once again paired with Rutherford to win the doubles competition before he went on to finish runner-up to Rutherford in the singles bracket.

Doug currently resides in nearby Lewis Center with his wife of nine years Alysha, his son Ethan, and his daughter Emerson. He is the Junior Director at Wickertree Tennis Club and is also the Tennis Director for Buddy Up Tennis – a non-profit organization for athletes with down syndrome. Doug mentions Capital helped him achieve his dream of working at a place he doesn't consider work, as he did his in-school internship with Wickertree Tennis Club, his current employer.
