WESTERVILLE, Ohio – On Thursday morning, the Ohio Athletic Conference announced the 2022 Academic All-Conference for the spring sports season. Capital University boasted 49 selections across 10 sports.
To be eligible for the accolade, student-athletes must be of sophomore status or higher, maintain varsity status within their team, and maintain a cumulative grade point average of 3.50 or higher.
The OAC Champion women's lacrosse team totaled seven selections. Graduate
Brooke Delara, senior
Molly Searles, juniors
Dylan Smith,
Avery Hart, and
Skyla Caito, as well as sophomores
Abigail Midnight and
Julia Foresi made up the Capital contingent. This is the third selection for Delara and the second for Smith. For Searles, Hart, Caito, Midnight, and Foresi, it was their first selection.
On the men's side of lacrosse, graduate
Chase Snyder, senior
Jack Conley, and sophomores
Ian Michaud and
Mikey Collins were honored. It is the third selection for Conley and the first for Snyder, Michaud, and Collins.
Earning the award on the baseball team were seniors
Cole Callaghan,
Bryant Caporale,
Kurt Maxwell, and
Brendan Stinson, juniors
Spencer Knight and
Brennon Newell, and sophomores
Evan Rottman and
Cooper Walker. This is the third selection for Callaghan, Caporale, and Maxwell. It is the second selection for Stinson, Knight, and Newell. For Rottman and Walker it was their first selection.
The honorees on the softball team were juniors
Lexie Leggett ,
Liz Stonerock,
Katelyn Wilhelm, and
Tiffany Zuelzke, as well as sophomore
Maddie McKinniss. This is the second selection for Leggett and Zuelzke, and the first selection for Stonerock, Wilhelm, and McKinniss.
On the men's side of the golf team senior
Andrew Simpson, juniors
Vince Daher,
Angelo Donato,
Colin Frimel, and
Shane Murphy, as well as sophomores
Jack Curtis and
Ben Satterthwaite were honored. It is the second selection for Daher, Donato, Frimel, and Murphy, and the first for Simpson, Curtis, and Satterthwaite.
Three were honored from the women's side of the golf team, those being junior
Reagan Johnson and sophomores
Hannah Frey and Mariah Costamire. Johnson's selection goes down as her second. It was the first selection for Frey and Costamire.
In terms of track and field, junior
Andy Fullmer, and sophomores
Aidan Cunningham,
Daniel Hiser,
Sam Siedel, and
Donovan Slattery were selected from the men's squad. It is Fullmer's second selection and the first for Cunningham, Hiser, Siedel, and Slattery.
From the women's track and field squad came senior
Heather Fryman, junior
Olivia Humes, and Vanasdale. This was the first selection for each.
For men's tennis, senior
Sulimaan Priest and junior
Jack Schwarz were selected. It is Schwarz's second selection and Priest's first.
Women's tennis had five honorees as graduate student
Kelli Wright-Lovell, seniors
Karen Kanke,
Maria Pickerill, and
Hayley Singleton, as well as sophomore
Josie Nichols were selected. It is the third selection for Kanke and the first for Wright-Lovell, Pickerill, Singleton, and Nichols.
These 49 student-athletes join the 38 from the fall and nine from the winter to have earned Academic All-OAC recognition this academic year.
