BEREA, Ohio – The Capital University women's tennis team dropped a narrow 5-4 decision at Baldwin Wallace University on Saturday afternoon.
The Comets, now 5-8 overall, fell behind in doubles, falling in two of the three matches, before splitting the singles matches evenly 3-3 to set the final score to 5-4.
In doubles play, the duo of
Nicole Flock and
Hayley Singleton won #3 doubles over Hanna LeMaster and Kami DiRocco by a margin of 8-5 to claim a point for Capital. In first doubles,
Kelli Wright-Lovell and
Anna Fletcher lost by a tight score of 8-6 to BW's Gabriela Heiderman and Kierstyn Yates. In second doubles,
Amy Wright-Lovell and
Josie Nichols fell to Ashtyn Morris and Lizzy Cole by an 8-1 score.
Transitioning to singles play, Capital took the top two match-ups, but not without difficulty.
Kelli Wright-Lovell defeated Heiderman 6-1, 6-4.
Anna Fletcher knocked off Baldwin Wallace's Yates in three challenging sets, 5-7, 6-2, 6-4. The other winning point came from
Amy Wright-Lovell at #4 singles. Wright-Lovell defeated Lizzy Cole by scores of 6-4 and 6-2.
In the other three matches,
Nicole Flock fell 2-6, 3-6;
Josie Nichols fell 1-6, 6-7 (7-9); and
Karen Kanke lost 3-6, 4-6.

With an OAC record of 3-4, Capital has claimed ownership of the No. 5 seed for the OAC Tournament and will travel back to Berea on Tuesday for a rematch with the No. 4 ranked Baldwin Wallace Yellow Jackets.
