Men’s Lacrosse Wraps Up Regular Season

TIFFIN, Ohio – The Capital University men's lacrosse team blitzed the Heidelberg University Student Princes by a final score of 16-1 on Wednesday evening to conclude the regular season. 

Now with their sights set on the OAC Tournament, Capital has closed the book on a regular season that saw them finish 8-8 and go 5-4 in the conference. With the 5-4 conference record, Capital has locked up the No. 5 seed in the OAC Tournament and will travel to crosstown rivals Otterbein on Saturday, April 30th for the quarter final match-up. That game is scheduled for 11 a.m. at Memorial Stadium. Tickets for the tournament game can be purchased online by CLICKING HERE

In tonight's game, Capital was led by Jack Scharner who netted three goals. Behind him, four Comets scored two goals each in the form of Jake Belt, Mason Spaulding, Nathan Montgomery, and Brenden Pelton

Jacob Poole, Nathan Mork, Aiden Manning, Chase Snyder, and Drew Bolen all scored once each. 

As a defensive unit, Cap caused 13 turnovers, with three being forced by Dom Rocco and two being caused by James Howenstine, Jake Belt and Jack Conley. The team also recorded 46 ground balls with the team-high going to Jack Scharner with six. Lake Harris added five, which came on his 14-for-15 record in the faceoff circle. Jacob Poole, Ian Michaud, Chase Snyder, and Mikey Collins all had four ground balls each. Collins was also 4-for-6 in the faceoff battle. 

Sam McInturf started in the cage and played nearly 50 minutes while shutting out The Berg with four saves. Ryan Pierce played the final 10 minutes in the goal. 

The Comets exploded for 12 goals by halftime and then eased up in the second half. Eventually, Capital's first concession of the game came with just 28 seconds left on the clock, leading to the final score of 16-1.

As already mentioned, Capital will head over to crosstown rivals Otterbein for the OAC Tournament quarter finals. The faceoff is scheduled for 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 30th.
