Match Recap: Women's Tennis |

Women’s Tennis Downed by John Carroll

UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio – On Friday afternoon, the Capital University women's tennis team traveled up to the greater Cleveland area to face off with the John Carroll University Blue Streaks. There, the Comets (3-7 overall, 1-3 OAC), fell to the high-powered Blue Streaks by a score of 8-1.

The Blue Streaks – who are coming off their first OAC loss in 55 matches their last time out – took all three doubles points to start the day. At both first and third doubles, the Comets fell by a score of 2-8. Those pairings included Kelli Wright-Lovell and Anna Fletcher, and Kylee Fliter and Abigail Hornacek. In second doubles, the Capital duo of Josie Nichols and Amy Wright-Lovell troubled the JCU tandem, forcing the match all the way to a tiebreaker scenario. Unfortunately the hosts held on and took the match-up 8-7.

Capital responded with some sustained solid play in singles action, even stealing a point in the match scoring. In fourth singles, Josie Nichols split her first two sets with her opponent, Jaclyn Voss, before she won the third set tiebreaker 10-5. Nichols swept through the first set 6-0, before dropping the second one 4-6 to set up the tiebreaker.

Despite some good play elsewhere, the Comets dropped the other five singles bouts. The following in order from first through sixth singles to drop their matches were Kelli Wright-Lovell (3-6, 1-6), Anna Fletcher (0-6, 2-6), Amy Wright-Lovell (1-6, 3-6), Abigail Hornacek (3-6, 2-6), and Karen Kanke (1-6, 0-6).
