Game Recap: Baseball |

Baseball Dropped by Marietta

COLUMBUS, Ohio – On Saturday afternoon, the Capital University baseball team dropped a pair of tough games to No. 1 ranked Marietta College.

Game one went to Marietta by a final of 24-1 before the Pioneers took game the nightcap 13-3.

Capital now sits at 5-15 with an 0-4 OAC mark. Unfortunately, Capital is in the midst of a seven game skid and will surely hope to curb that this coming Tuesday with a rematch with Ohio Christian.
Despite being roughed up a bit by the Pioneers (18-3, 3-1 OAC), Capital scattered hits throughout the day, tallying 11 hits through the two games.

In game one, Cole Callaghan led the way with a pair of baseknocks, including an RBI double in the bottom of the seventh inning. Others to collect hits in the first game were Logan White, Brandon Barnette, Connor Feeney and Matt Anthony

Game two was led by Ethan Neal and Hunter Wilson at the plate with two hits each. Neal's second hit of the game was a solo homer to left. Wilson collected two singles through the right side. Joining Neal and Wilson with hits in the game was EJ Santana with one. Santana's was a big one, as it cleared the left field scoreboard, for his first home run in Purple and White colors.

The starting pitchers in both games were each saddled with the loss in their respective contest. Game one was started by Connor Jones – his first appearance of the season. Jones went one and a third inning allowing six hits and two walks, conceding eight earned runs. Game two was started by Tyler Sickles who lasted two and two-thirds innings. Sickles allowed six hits and four free passes conceding seven runs.

In addition to Jones making his first appearance of the season, Garrett Kroese made his first appearance on the bump, throwing a full inning, allowing just one hit, one walk, and one run.

As mentioned, the Comets will look to get back in the win column as they travel to Ohio Christian on Tuesday for a doubleheader. Capital will play two at OCU on Tuesday before hosting the Trailblazers on Wednesday at Ohio Dominican University. Both dates look to have weather playing a factor, so any schedule updates will be posted to athletics.capital.edu if they need to be made.
