COLUMBUS, Ohio – On Friday afternoon, the Capital University women's tennis team competed at Scarborough East Tennis Center against Shawnee State University. The final score went 6-3 in favor of the visitors.
Capital, now 3-2 overall on the season, began the day with singles action, taking two out of six possible points at first and sixth singles. All six matches were decided in two sets.
Kelli Wright-Lovell earned the point at first singles, while
Hayley Singleton knocked off her opponent at sixth singles. Both ladies claimed victory by identical scores of 6-2, 6-2.
Elsewhere in singles action,
Nicole Flock (3-6, 3-6),
Anna Fletcher (2-6, 1-6),
Abigail Hornacek (0-6, 3-6), and
Josie Nichols (3-6, 3-6) were defeated.
At doubles play, Cap took one out of a possible three points, winning the #3 match-up.
Amy Wright-Lovell and
Karen Kanke comprised the winning duo for Cap, as they defeated McKenzie Harman and Katelyn Pauley of Shawnee State by a score of 8-5.
Kelli Wright-Lovell and
Nicole Flock paired up at #1 doubles and fell 6-8, while
Anna Fletcher and
Josie Nichols were knocked off at second doubles 4-8.
The Comets will face a tight turnaround as they hit the road for Ohio Northern tomorrow morning. Capital will play the Polar Bears at 11 a.m. at Westwood Tennis & Fitness Center in Lima, Ohio. Their match will take place simultaneously with the Capital men's tennis program as well.
