Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Strong Effort Not Enough as Men’s Lacrosse Falls to BW

COLUMBUS, Ohio – On a windy, chilly afternoon at Bernlohr Stadium, the Capital University men's lacrosse team fell to the visiting Baldwin Wallace University Yellow Jackets by a final score of 14-9.

The Comets (3-5, 0-1 OAC), fell behind midway through the first quarter and couldn't catch up despite closing to within two goals early in the fourth quarter. The Yellow Jackets used a balanced attack that saw them score four goals in three of the four quarters to take the game.

The Capital offense was paced by Mason Spaulding who cashed in five goals, bringing his season tally to 22 on the year. Drew Bolen, Aiden Manning, Chase Snyder and Jake Belt each scored once as well.

In the defensive game, Lake Harris scooped up a game-high nine ground balls, all of which came on a dominant afternoon in the faceoff circle. Harris won 18-of-27 battles at the faceoff, his most wins in a game this season. Chase Snyder was just behind Harris in ground balls with eight. Jack Conley led the team with two caused turnovers.

Reigning OAC Defensive Player of the Week, Sam McInturf, once again put up a fight in the cage as he ended the game with 16 saves – a total he has hit three times this season.

HOW IT HAPPENED
As BW was controlling the game through the first quarter, Cap got off the mark with Spaulding's first tally of the game. He took a cross-field pass from Nathan Montgomery and rocketed a shot to the back of the net making it 3-1 early on. Unfortunately, BW ended the first with another goal, carrying a 4-1 lead after 15 minutes.

Cap stepped up their game in the second quarter, scoring three times, but again conceded four times. Spaulding grabbed his second before Jake Belt and Drew Bolen found paydirt later on. The strike for Bolen was his first goal of the year.

After the halftime intermission, BW used the third quarter and the early part of the fourth to build an 11-6 lead. Chase Snyder and Spaulding would score in the process for Capital.

Trailing by five, Capital rattled off three straight goals in a span of 52 seconds of play in the fourth quarter, bringing the score to within 11-9. Mason Spaulding netted twice, and Aiden Manning scored a wrap-around goal to lead the blitz. Spaulding's second goal came on a man-up opportunity.

Unlucky for Cap, BW finished the game scoring the final three goals, closing out the final score of 14-9.

Most impressive in the second half effort was Lake Harris' battle at the faceoff. After losing the opening duel of the third quarter, the senior won the game's final 10 faceoff battles.

THE OPPONENT
Jake Nanosky scored six goals and handed out one assist to lead the BW offense. Adam Blose and Ethan Rutowski led the defense with three caused turnovers each. They combined for seven ground balls as well.  Joe Storner made 10 saves for the Yellow Jackets.
