Game Recap: Women's Lacrosse |

Women’s Lacrosse Cages the Tigers

SPRINGFIELD, Ohio – The Capital University women's lacrosse team continued their dominating start to the 2022 season by brushing aside the Wittenberg University Tigers on Wednesday evening by a final score of 20-1.

The Comets – who moved to 9-0 on the year – suffocated the Tigers and gave them no room to work, forcing Witt to commit 34 turnovers in the game, and get off just four shot attempts through the four quarters. Also impressive were Cap's 19 draw controls compared to Witt's six.

Leading the lines offensively tonight were the usual subjects in Brooke Delara and Luci Kanowsky. The pair combined for eight goals and eight assists. The third part of the trifecta, Grace Osborn, had a slightly subdued evening by her standards, scoring just two goals and dishing out two assists. Osborn made up for not scoring as much by recording two ground balls, one caused turnover, and 12 draw controls – the second most in a single game in program history.

Others having big evenings on the offensive side of the game included Abigail Midnight (two goals), Katie Page (two goals), and Julia Foresi (one goal, two assists). Dylan Smith and Audrey Kilgallon each netted one goal a piece as well.

With the suffocating Cap defense doing their job defensively, the defenders took chances going forward, with big reward. Seniors Maddy Radanof, Molly Searles, and Hanna Searles all scored their first goals of the season in the game. The goals for Molly and Maddy were the first of their careers as well.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Capital put the game to bed after just six minutes of play had elapsed in the first quarter. Luci Kanowsky led the charge in the quick start to the game, scoring three goals off the rip. Grace Osborn, Brooke Delara, and Katie Page also found the back of the net to get the game going in the right direction early. Rylee Jarvis recorded her first assist of the year on Delara's first goal.

The Comets would continue offensive dominance going through the quarter as they finished the first period leading 9-1. The only Wittenberg goal of the afternoon would come on a free-position shot by Jessica Flick just before the first quarter break.

In the second quarter, Cap would score six more goals to secure the result by halftime. Abigail Midnight led the charge in the period, scoring the first and last Comet goals in the quarter.
In the second half, Cap would release their foot on the gas, but still managed to score five more goals. Audrey Kilgallon and Brooke Delara would score putting Cap ahead 17-1 with the fourth quarter left to play.

In the fourth, the defenders saw an opportunity going forward as Molly Searles, Hanna Searles, and Maddy Radanof would all find the net once each. Avery Hart picked up the assist on Molly's goal, while Delara had assists on the other two goals.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS
Due to the dominant play in the field by Capital, goalie Bee Kuehn was kept quiet, but managed to stop three of the four shots that were sent her way. The lone shot to beat her came off a free-position shot in the first quarter.

Grace Osborn eclipsed the 50-goal mark in tonight's contest as she now sits at 51 this season. With her 14 assists, she boasts 65 points to her name.

Luci Kanowsky remains hot on the heels of Osborn in scoring as she now sits at 46 goals this season. With her 11 assists, she has 57 points on the year.

Brooke Delara's nine points tonight give her 74 on the year, and 293 in her career. The career record for Capital history stands at 302 points.

Despite the box score showing just six caused turnovers, the Comets were all over the Tigers every chance they could get tonight, holding Witt to just 14 successful clears on 27 tries and forcing them into 34 turnovers on the night. Grace Osborn, Luci Kanowsky (2), Katie Page, Molly Searles, and Haleigh McPhillips each contributed caused turnovers in the game.

UP NEXT
The red-hot Comets will look to keep the results going as they visit Baldwin Wallace on Saturday for a 1 p.m. start time. The game will commence OAC play for Capital this season.
