Men’s Lacrosse Suffers Loss On Frigid Day at Bernlohr Stadium

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Through three quarters, the Capital University men's lacrosse team was toe-to-toe with yet another NCAC opponent, tied 6-6. In the fourth quarter, the visiting Oberlin College went up 3-1, claiming a 9-7 win at the end of a frigid, windy day at Bernlohr Stadium.

The 9-7 final score was Capital's second loss at the identical scoreline to an NCAC opponent this season as they fell via the similar score to Kenyon College.

This afternoon, Mason Spaulding had a hot hand, scoring a new career-high six goals. Johnathan Kilgallon netted the other goal, while five separate players recorded assists today. Nathan Mork, Jake Belt, Nathan Montgomery, Jacob Poole, and Jon Gaglione were credited with helpers in the game.

Both teams exchanged quarters of leading 2-1 during the first half as they carried a 3-3 scoreline to the break. With just 10 seconds remaining in the second quarter, Spaulding grabbed another goal tying things up as they hit the intermission.

The third quarter saw Capital come out of the gates with the hot hand, scoring three goals in a five minute span – two from Spaulding and one from Kilgallon. Unfortunately, the Comets were unable to hold the momentum as the Yeomen finished the third frame on a three goal run, once again leveling the score at 6-6.

In the fourth quarter, Oberlin kept the momentum in their favor as they outscored Cap 3-1. Mason Spaulding netted his fifth of the game to give the team life, but in the end would struggle to do enough to flip the script as Oberlin emerged with the 9-7 win.

UP NEXT
The Comets will have a quick turnaround against another tough opponent as they will host North Central College on Monday afternoon at 1 p.m. The Cardinals are passing through the Columbus area on their spring break trip to Virginia, thus the need for a 1 p.m. start time on a Monday.
