Game Recap: Men's Lacrosse |

Men’s Lacrosse Can’t Make Up For Slow Start

COLUMBUS, Ohio – On Saturday afternoon, a slow first half by the Capital University men's lacrosse team spelled disaster as the visiting Kenyon College escaped with a 9-7 win.

The loss was Capital's second by two goals this season, as the team fell 12-10 in their first game as well.

Attackman Jack Scharner led the team in offensive scoring with two goals and two assists on the day. Behind Scharner, Mason Spaulding netted twice as well, bringing his season total to six goals.

HOW IT HAPPENED
In the first quarter, Kenyon blitzed the scoreboard for four goals in a 4:43 span of time, capturing a 4-0 lead – one that would stick until the third quarter. Both teams would go scoreless in the second frame.

At the start of the third, it appeared Kenyon came out of the intermission looking to remove all doubt from the scoreboard as they scored two quickfire goals, extending their lead to 6-0.

Despite the quick lapse, Capital responded in force and halved the deficit in just 1:23 of time as Scharner, Aiden Manning, and Spaulding scored three in a row for the Comets. A fourth goal came just a couple minutes later as Nathan Montgomery finished off a second-chance opportunity.

Kenyon then responded to Capital's momentum by scoring three straight goals to finish out the third quarter and to start the fourth. This run of action from the Lords (2-0) was enough to put the game out of reach.

Capital did have a spirited comeback effort as Jack Scharner attempted to manufacture a comeback with another goal and two assists. His helpers went to Spaulding and Dylan Comella.

Unfortunately, Kenyon stopped the energetic comeback and held on for the 9-7 win.
