COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Capital University women's basketball team saw a tough test on Wednesday night, facing the third place Marietta Pioneers who have lost only four games on the year. Capital saw a slow start in the first half but ended strong and were able to pull closer to Marietta in the second half. The final score was 71-44 in favor of the Pioneers. Capital now drops to 5-19 (2-14 OAC) on the season while Marietta jumps to 21-4 (14-5 OAC).
Capital was led in scoring by
Brooke Ommert who had 12 points, as well as nine rebounds, two steals, a block, and an assist.
She was followed closely by
Laney Murphy with 10 points. The freshman from Fredericksburg alo had five rebounds, two steals, and an assist.
Demi Brewer ended the night with seven points, five rebounds, and five assists.
Kaylee Cyphers tallied six points, a rebound, and an assist.
Maddie Dougoud scored four, rebounded three, stole one, and assisted one.
As a team, Capital utilized their opportunities from range more efficiently than the Pioneers. The Comets knocked down 6-of-13 of their chances, while Marietta was just 5-of-27.
