Women’s Soccer Cruises to 4-0 Win at Muskingum

NEW CONCORD, Ohio – In a pouring rain, the Capital University women's soccer team eased their way to a 4-0 win over Muskingum University on Wednesday evening.

The Comets clearly held the upper-hand by out-shooting the Muskies by a margin of 23-8, which included a 14-2 edge in attempts on target.

With the win, Capital improves to 7-2-2 overall and 3-0-1 in the OAC. Muskingum now falls to 2-8-3 and 0-4 in the conference.

Capital held the upper hand early and eventually broke through with two goals just four minutes apart in the 10th and 14th minutes. First, Grace Estes finished off her second goal in as many games on an unassisted strike. Then, just 3:58 later, Avery Hart added her sixth goal of the year off an assist from Lizzie Elliott

After some brilliant attempts, including a great shot by Francesca Longano that drew a save from Kelly Buck, Capital finally tacked on their third of the game in the 30th minute. Nicole Ogden took a feed from Grace Estes and calmly slotted home for her second career goal. Oddly enough, her first career tally came in the same fixture a season-ago. Avery Hart also picked up the second assist on the goal. This marked the second time in the team's last three games in which Hart and Estes teamed up to set up a Comet goal – the last being Lizzie Elliott's goal against Wilmington last Wednesday.

After a brief halftime, Capital once again dominated play, as they out-shot the Muskies 13-5 in the second 45. Despite all the pressure, only one shot found the back of the net. That came in the 59th minute off the foot of Catherine Zugaro – her second goal of the year. The goal was assisted by Shelby Jackson – her first as a Capital Comet.

In the Capital goal, Liv Alford played the full 90 minutes and did well, stopping the only two shots she faced. The shutout marked the second individual shutout of her young career.

Kelly Buck made seven saves for Muskingum, while Jennafer Roberts made three saves in relief. Jillian Laposky took a team-best three shots.
