Game Recap: Men's Basketball |

Men’s Basketball Lets Lead Slip Away at Muskingum

NEW CONCORD, Ohio -- In what looked to be heading toward a comfortable win at halftime, the Capital University men's basketball team let their control of the game slip away, succumbing to Muskingum University by a final score of 75-72 on Wednesday evening.

Capital (9-8, 4-6 OAC) carried an eight point lead at the intermission, but an 11-4 run to start the second half by the hosts proved to be the tone-setter, enabling the Muskies to get right back into contention.

In the game, Cap did see four players score double digits in the form of David Sanford (20 points), Kaleb Crawford (12 points), Griffin Doseck (12 points), and Tyler Schreck (10 points).

Schreck balanced out his game with a double-double, also logging 10 rebounds. He added five assists, three steals and two blocks as well.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Purple and White came out of the gates sharp as Tyler Schreck scored the game's first two baskets, lifting Capital into the lead early at 4-0.

After a brief scare that saw Muskingum tie the game at 7-7, Capital once again returned to their sharp play, eventually building out a game-high 13-point lead at 26-13. The run of good offense from Capital was buoyed by some solid free throw shooting, and a big four-point play by Ryan Roth. Roth was fouled by DJ Donnell while shooting a 3-pointer. After converting the 3-ball, Roth knocked down the free throw attempt for the big play.

Ahead by 13, Capital once again saw the Muskies (5-13, 2-9) chip away at their lead, eventually closing to within three points at 26-23. Thankfully for Cap, however, the Purple and White ended the half on a 14-9 run that saw them take a 40-32 lead into the break.

After the half, it was clear Muskingum came out the aggressor, as it took just 3:21 of gameplay for Muskie to tie the contest at 42-42.

Capital was once again able to respond with a run of their own as they reopened another eight-point spread, this time with 12:13 remaining in the game.

The hosts came back with another run, this time storming back to take their first lead of the game at 67-65 with 2:55 remaining. There, Muskingum was able to hold on with calm free throw shooting and strong defense that limited Cap's offense to just seven points in desperation time. Eventually, the Muskies held on for the come-from-behind win at 75-72.
