Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

No. 7 OWU Too Much for Men’s Soccer

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- On Wednesday evening the Capital University men's soccer team hosted their second straight high-level team, this time in the form of No. 7 ranked Ohio Wesleyan University.

Under the Bernlohr Stadium lights, the Battling Bishops (7-0-2) ran away 2-0 winners thanks to a pair of first half goals from Jaggar Brooker.

The Battling Bishops doubled up on Capital's shot attempts in the first half by a margin of 10-5. Four of those OWU efforts found the frame, and two off the foot and body of Brooker found the back of the net.

First in the 27th minute, OWU counter attacked brilliantly and Brooker took a pass from Hector Gomez before calmly side-footing the shot to the back post. Next, the visitors took advantage of a Capital defensive turnover. This time, Brooker got his midsection on the ball to force it over the line as he collided with CU (5-3) keeper Landon Hoehn. The second goal was assisted by Franklin Rodriguez in the game's 33rd minute of play.

Capital's most dangerous attempt came off the foot of Jack Kossoudji in the 21st minute. Kossoudji got on the end of an over-the-top ball from Chase Geddis and his low driven shot was smartly kept out by OWU goalkeeper Mason Taylor.

In the second half, OWU kept the press up, while Capital fought to hang on and find a way back in the match.

Capital fended off several quality Ohio Wesleyan opportunities in the second 45 minutes, with the best defensive effort coming in the 55th minute. Ethan Marshall found himself with a wide-open net, but Cap's Alex Moore, who had slipped made a diving, acrobatic goal line clearance to keep the match at 2-0.

Also fending off the OWU chances was Connor Sexton who entered the match at halftime in relief. In the second half alone, Sexton stopped five shots in his time on the field.

In total, Capital saved eight of OWU's 20 shot attempts. Hoehn had two saves, Sexton contributed five stops and Moore was credited with the clearance on the line.

Both OWU keepers, Mason Taylor and Chase Agin each had one save.

Brooker led the Battling Bishops with seven shot attempts, two of which found pay dirt.

Capital will now kickoff OAC play this weekend as they visit Baldwin Wallace University for a 7 p.m. kickoff. Fans can catch a Cap-BW doubleheader as Capital football will take on the Yellow Jackets in Berea for a 1:30 p.m. kickoff.
