Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Men's Soccer Suffers First Loss of the Season

GRANVILLE, Ohio -- On Tuesday night, the Capital University men's soccer team endured their first loss of the season at the hands of Denison University. The Big Red overtook Capital by a final score of 4-1.

With the loss, CU now sits at 4-1 on the season. Denison holds an identical record after the win.

Denison grabbed an early lead by scoring in just the third minute of the game. Ethan Miracle latched onto a pass from teammate Cameron McIntosh to put the Big Red ahead early. The hosts doubled their lead in the 18th minute as Vitor Rocha found the back of the net on an assist from Ben Goeller.

Capital didn't waste any time getting back in the game as Jack Kossoudji buried a goal off a feed from Sam Spirk, just 42 seconds after Rocha's goal. Unfortunately for Capital, the edge back on the scoreboard fizzled out as Denison bagged a third goal in the 39th minute. Luca Vicinelli scored the goal to put the game out of reach before halftime.

Denison sealed the deal in the 62nd minute as Ethan Miracle netted his second goal of the game.

Capital definitely didn't lack chances as they out-shot the Big Red 22-13, including a 12-6 edge in shots on goal. Kossoudji led all players with five shots, all of which found the frame. Jarrett Puckett, Bailey Lach, and Colton Daugherty all tallied four shots each.

Connor Sexton played the second half in goal and recorded two saves for Capital. On the opposite end of the field, Dylan Brown stopped 11 Capital shots.

Capital will look to get back on track this coming Saturday as they host Wittenberg University. Kickoff at Bernlohr Stadium is scheduled for 3 p.m.
