COLUMBUS, Ohio – On Saturday morning, the Capital University volleyball team concluded play at the 2021 installment of the Pam Briggs Classic. Co-hosted with nearby Otterbein University, the tournament honors the legacy of former Capital head coach Pam Briggs who led the Purple and White to their only OAC titles in program history.
On Saturday, Capital played tough, but could only muster one set win against a difficult slate of opponents. In match one, Cap lost to Geneva College by a margin of 3-1 (25-18, 13-25, 25-20, 25-18). In the second match, Capital was upended in three sets by Hanover College (25-22, 25-23, 25-12).
Capital connected on a healthy amount of their attacks, but a slew of errors, dropped their team hitting percentage into the negatives match one, and to just a .106 in match two.
On the day
Delanie Nahikian once again led matters offensively, combining for 24 kills in the two matches.
Alissa Holler added a combined 11 kills, while
Sydney LaPointe contributed 10 of her own. Capital once again went with a two-setter rotation as
Jordyn Hoffman and
Jenay Kocsis split the majority of the setting responsibilities. Hoffman tallied 23 assists, while Kocsis combined for 24 helpers.
Reagan Willoughby picked up seven assists in the final set of the Hanover match. Kocsis also added four aces on the day.
Defensively, Nahikian again led Capital as she combined for 33 digs.
Erin O'Connell chipped in with an impressive 32 digs of her own. O'Connell was also busy elsewhere as she combined for seven assists and three aces in the two matches. Her efforts landed her a spot on the Pam Briggs Classic All-Tournament team at the end of the event.
Capital will return to action with another home match on Thursday evening as NCAC opponent Kenyon makes the trek to Columbus. First serve is scheduled for 7 p.m. in the Capital Center. Fans planning to attend must keep in mind the
