2021-22 Covid-19 Protocol - Capital Athletics

COLUMBUS, Ohio –  Capital University Athletics has announced the 2021-22 Covid-19 Protocol for Spectator Attendance at home events.

For the 2021-22 school year, Capital Athletics will adhere to the following protocol to ensure we do our part to enable our student-athletes the opportunity to compete for the entirety of the season. *Note: the below protocol is subject to change at any time given the ever-changing situation surrounding Covid-19.*

Indoors at The Capital Center and on Campus - **UPDATED January 3rd, 2022**
  • Masks must be worn at all times while indoors on Capital's campus, including at The Capital Center, regardless of vaccination status.
    • This includes for all indoor sporting events, to enter the building for restroom use, to escape weather from outdoor games, or to visit the building. 
    • This policy will be upheld for all media personnel and visitors to the Bernlohr Stadium press box and hospitality areas. 
    • Those who are unwilling to wear a mask indoors will be kindly asked to refrain from entering the buildings on Capital's campus.
  • Concessions and Food Operations are being suspended at all indoor events and outside food will not be welcomed indoors at the Capital Center.
  • Social Distancing is expected to be maintained whenever possible inside The Capital Center
    • Gathering after games in the lobby of the Capital Center is not permitted and fans and spectators will be asked to leave the facility immediately following conclusion of the event. 
Outdoors at Bernlohr Stadium and on Campus
  • Masks are not required in outdoor settings at this time, but it is expected that individuals wear a mask at all times if they are not vaccinated against Covid-19. 
  • Social Distancing is expected to be maintained whenever possible at Bernlohr Stadium.
    • Capital Athletics discourages the gathering of groups of people in the stands at the stadium wherever possible. 
    • If social distancing cannot be maintained, masks are recommended to be worn.
  • Approved media personnel in attendance to take photos and video of games from field level are required to refrain from entering the team bench areas and are asked to not intermix with student-athletes at this time. Masks are required to be worn at field-level by media members, regardless of vaccination status.
    • Any media members who wish to attend a Capital sporting event this season must contact Sports Information Director, Nick Astalos for approval. Those who are not approved prior to the event will not be admitted.
Ohio Athletic Conference Directives
  • OAC institutions will, at minimum, follow current COVID-19 Management Considerations as published in the NCAA Resocialization of College Sport: 2021 Fall Training and Competition document. 
  • Officials for sporting events must contact Capital University ahead of their scheduled contest to either provide proof of vaccination or discuss the testing protocol for non-vaccinated individuals. 
    • All officials, regardless of vaccination status, must mask at all times, other than when directly involved in officiating the competition.
  • Campus, local, state, or federal public health authorities may make determinations affecting spectators, which OAC institutions must adhere to. Any individual not in compliance with the guidelines applicable to the host institution will be asked to leave the venue.
