ADA, Ohio –  In a game that featured a display of two fantastic pitching performances from Brianna Shearer and Stacey Walters, the Capital University softball team was knocked out of the OAC Tournament at the hands of Ohio Northern University by a final score of 1-0.

The loss ends Capital's season at 16-21, while ONU advances in the tournament and improves to 21-17-1 on the year.

Both Shearer and ONU starter Walters allowed just two hits a piece through five and half shutout innings of softball. It wasn't until the bottom of the sixth that either pitcher wavered. After a leadoff single, Abby Elliott tripled to plate the game's first run in favor of the Polar Bears. Despite the run, Shearer worked out of the jam with a flyout and groundout stranding Elliott at third.

In the top of the seventh inning, Capital threatened a comeback. Alyx Slusher led off the inning with a double to left center and moved to third on a groundout from Alysa Durbin. Unfortunately from there, Walters avoided damage and induced two straight outs to leave Slusher on base and end the game, 1-0 to Ohio Northern.

In addition to Slusher's double, Lauren Kachure collected two hits on the day for the Purple and White. Kachure tagged a double down the right field line in the top of the third and singled in the top of the sixth but could not score either time.

Shearer tossed a gem in the pitching circle, completing a great sophomore campaign at 11-9. In her six innings of work, she allowed just the one run on four hits and one walk. She struck out three in her efforts.

Walters pitched a complete game for ONU and allowed just three hits and two walks while striking out seven.
