BEXLEY, Ohio –  On Tuesday afternoon, the Capital University baseball team finally finished up their weekend series with Wilmington College after two postponements pushed the home doubleheader into Tuesday. The Quakers swept the Crusaders by scores of 8-7 and 12-1 to claim the series.
Capital drops to 4-30 on the year while Wilmington improves to 11-23.Â
Between the two games, Capital collected 14 hits, including 10 in game one.
Logan White and
Kurt Maxwell both went 3-for-5 in the first game and collected two RBIs each.
Jake Lewis collected two hits as well.
Tyler Knapp collected a two-run double in the comeback efforts of game one. Rounding out the top performers of the day was
Ben Stevens' two-hit effort in game two.Â
GAME ONE - Wilmington wins 8-7 (Box Score)
Despite finding themselves behind 8-0 in game one, the Crusaders stormed back into the game with two big innings late on. In the sixth, Capital scored three on Maxwell's RBI single and Knapp's two RBI double that scored Lewis,
Brendan Stinson and Maxwell.Â
Again in the eighth inning the Crusader bats awoke as Cap plated four more runs, almost leveling the game at eight. Maxwell's RBI single scored
Dakota DesteFano. A few batters later,
Aiden Kinser drew a bases loaded walk to plate Maxwell. With the bases still loaded,
Logan White delivered a two-run double that scored both
Chase Clouser and Knapp, bringing the score to 8-7.Â
Unfortunately, the Purple and White comeback efforts stalled out and the Quakers escaped with the narrow win.Â
Curtis Clark (1-3) started for Capital and was strapped with eight runs (five earned) on seven hits and three walks.
Connor Jones tossed a brilliant 4.2 innings of relief and conceded just one hit and two walks.
Scott Gutstein closed out the game and punched out one batter. Both Clark and Jones had two strikeouts each.Â
GAME TWO - Wilmington wins 12-1 (Box Score)
In game two, the story of unearned runs plagued the Crusaders as Wilmington jumped to an early 7-0 lead that featured five unearned tallies.Â
After Capital got an unearned run of their own in the bottom of the sixth on two errors by the Wilmington third baseman, the Quakers removed all doubt with four more runs in the top of the seventh inning.Â
Four Capital pitchers saw time on the bump in game two. Starter
Tucker Craft (1-5) got the loss allowing nine hits, seven runs (two earned), and one walk.
Gavin Vanhorn allowed a run in 1.2 innings of work.
