BEXLEY, Ohio – For the fourth consecutive match, the Capital University men's soccer team fell by a 1-0 scoreline. On Monday evening, Ohio Northern University scored a 75th minute free kick to escape Bexley with the narrow margin of victory.
With the loss, Capital slips to 2-5, while ONU improves to 3-3-1 on the year.
The visitors did control the lion's share of chances, especially in the first half of play as they outshot the Crusaders 10-1 by halftime. However, goalkeeper
Kellen Sargent stopped the two shots on target and helped keep Capital in the contest.
In the second half, the Crusaders almost found the breakthrough in the 57th minute as
Jack Francisco found himself clear through on goal, but his low drive was kicked away by the Polar Bears' goalie John Lombardo. The chance was Capital's best of the match.
From there, ONU re-established control on the match and eventually earned a free kick in the 75th minute from about 25 yards from goal. There, Zach Yoder delivered a curled shot to the upper left corner of the net for the only goal of the match.
The Crusaders pushed for an equalizer but could not get through the backline of ONU to force any meaningful chances late on.
Sargent added two second-half stops for a total of four saves on the evening. Lombardo stopped just the lone shot in the game.
Capital will return to the field on Thursday, April 8th at Bernlohr Stadium as they welcome Wilmington College for a 7 p.m. contest.
