COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Capital University men's lacrosse team made ease of Wilmington College in Tuesday afternoon's Ohio Athletic Conference contest at Bernlohr Stadium in Columbus. Three Crusaders recorded hat tricks and the defense handled the Fightin' Quakers as part of a 23-4 victory.

While Wilmington (0-12, 0-8 OAC) scored the game's first goal 3:09 into the contest, Jon Gaglione started a massive run on goals for Capital just 51 seconds later. His goal just short of the 4-minute mark fueled a string of 22 consecutive goals by the Crusaders before Wilmington found the score column again.

Of the next eight goals, the combination of senior CJ Hughes and sophomore Evan Frund accounted for six of those. Hughes posted a hat trick with 13:06 remaining in the second quarter and Frund was right behind him, having completed his just two minutes later.

Jake Belt served as the third Capital player to notch a hat trick. With back-to-back goals to close out the third quarter, Belt achieved his with 26 seconds remaining in the quarter.

Just one game after recording his first point since 2018, Nick Werhya recorded his first collegiate goal against the Quakers.  His goal was the final tally in Cap's run, which made the score 22-1 at the top of the fourth.

Capital trotted all four of its goalies out for time between the pipes with Ben Houser and Nicholas Ferda recording the only two saves for the Purple and White. Their counterpart, Reed Beavers, made 12 saves while allowing 23 goals.

Capital (7-5, 3-5 OAC) will wrap up the regular season this weekend when they head to Muskingum University for a game against the Muskies in New Concord. They will face off on Saturday at 1 p.m. to vie for a spot in the OAC Tournament. The Crusaders current sit in a tie for sixth place with Marietta College (4-8, 3-5 OAC).
