COLUMBUS, Ohio –  Capital University Baseball engaged in a tough battle with the Purple Raiders of the University of Mount Union at Clowson Field on Sunday afternoon. Both games resulted in losses but each saw the Crusaders give themselves a chance to win in the end.

Capital used a three-run third inning to take a lead over the Purple Raiders, scoring on a wild pitch and RBI base hits from
Ryan Henne and
Garrott Kennedy. Cap added a single run in each of the next two inning when Kennedy struck again with another RBI single, scoring
Cole Callaghan.
Connor Feeney came up in the fifth and doubled home a run to increase Cap's lead to 5-1.

Curtis Clark was tossing a high-quality start but surrendered three runs between the sixth and eighth innings to make for a one-run contest. Capital help on to its lead heading into the ninth inning, where the Crusaders turned it over to
Jared Heidecker (L, 1-5) for the save attempt. Mount Union had other plans after putting runners on and then watching Chase Angotti tie the game with a single through the left side then Logan Bell plated the eventual game-winning runs with a two-run single up the middle.
Jeremy Sassano (W, 2-0) carried on in an extended relief role and retired the Crusaders in order in both the eighth and ninth innings to preserve the win for the Purple Raiders. Â
Clark took a no-decision after throwing 8.0 innings and allowing four runs, two earned, on eight hits with four strikeouts.

The Mount Union combination of Dwayne Sumler and Colin Skufca combined throw a two-hitter against Capital, negating a quality pitching performance from a group of five Capital hurlers that took to the hill in game two. Mount Union defeated Capital, 3-0, after plating single runs in the fourth, seventh and eighth innings.
An error in the fourth led to Mount Union getting on the board and singles by Eric Schilling and Zack Mazza accounted for the other two.
Bryant Caporale went six strong innings have allowed just one unearned run on five hits. Only one of Mount's three runs were earned on the evening.

Capital (4-22) will play Baldwin Wallace in a four-game set next weekend, beginning with a doubleheader at home on Saturday, May 1 with first pitch coming at 1 p.m.
