ZANESVILLE, Ohio – The Capital University women's tennis team kicked off Saturday's full day of sports action with an 8-1 victory over Muskingum University at the Zanesville High School Tennis Courts.

The pairing of Karen Kanke and Amy Wright-Lovell rolled to a shutout victory on court three for Cap's first doubles victory, defeating Jane Boyer and Kaylee Anstaett, 8-0. Muskingum tied the match with its first and only point when Gracie Andrews and Amanda Plaskett beat Kelli Wright-Lovell and Josie Nichols, 8-3. But the tie was short-lived because Cap would go on to win the next seven points.

To close out doubles play, Rachel Smith and Maggie Haas outlasted Kayla Hall and Evelyn Pauquette, 8-5, to kick off that run.

Just as she had a hand in Capital acquiring its first point on the doubles side, Amy Wright-Lovell did the same on the singles circuit. On court five, Amy Wright-Lovell defeated Emma Bachman, 6-0, 6-0. Her doubles partner, Karen Kanke, followed right behind her with a victory on court six over Boyer, 6-4, 6-4.

Kelli Wright-Lovell redeemed herself with a 6-3, 6-0 victory over Gracie Andrew in the top-flight matchup. Her victory clinched the match, but the Crusaders were not finished.

Maggie Haas (def. K. Hall 6-0, 6-2) and Rachel Smith (def. E. Pauquette 6-3, 7-5) continued the successful streak for Cap with points six and seven. Josie Nichols defeated Amanda Plaskett, 6-3, 6-2, to close up the match.

Capital (2-3) has two matches left in the regular season, both at home. The Crusaders' next match will be on Wednesday, April 28, at 11 a.m. against Marietta College. The match will be played at Scarborough East Indoor Tennis Courts in Columbus.
