ADA, Ohio –  Aided in large part to
Kathryn Walton's brilliant offensive evening, the Capital University waltzed to a 19-9 win over Ohio Northern University.Â
The win pushed Capital to 9-2 on the year, while ONU was pegged back to 5-9.Â
ONU looked to control the night as they jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead under two minutes into the game. Noel Orioli and Annie McArn tallied scores for the hosts. The lead however was short-lived.Â
Walton began her first half six-goal outburst in the fifth minute with an open field tally. Just over a minute later, Walton added a second from the free-position line evening the score at two. Â
A brief exchange of goals saw Capital garner the lead for the first time in the game just eight minutes in. After
Luci Kanowsky accounted for the team's third goal of the game, Walton scored her third to put the Crusaders ahead with a lead they would fail to relinquish.Â
Three more Walton goals, three from
Dana Stover, two more from Kanowsky and a solo tally by
Brianna Rampi and
Brooke Delara carried the Purple and White to a 14-4 advantage.Â
The second half proved to be a more even affair as the wide-open play seen in the first half seemed to relax. Both teams managed to scored five in the second half resulting in the 19-9 final score.
Walton (2), Rampi (2), and Delara all rattled the back of the cage for Capital in the second period of play.Â
Brooke Delara's great scoring night was aided heavily by a five-assist performance as well. Walton and
Dylan Smith each were credited with one assist each.
Bee Kuehn started between the pipes for Cap and was credited with eight saves. On the flip side, Addison Bellistri was credited with four saves, while Capital breached reserve goalie Molly Dixson all five times.Â
Meredith Miller scored four goals for the Polar Bears, with McArn had a hat trick and two assists.Â
Capital will return home on Saturday, April 17th for a 5 p.m. draw. John Carroll will make the trek down from Cleveland for the early evening contest. The game will be played as the second leg to a Capital Lacrosse doubleheader. The men's lacrosse team will host Ohio Northern at 1 p.m. prior to the women.Â
