NEW CONCORD, Ohio – The Capital University volleyball team's season has come to an end after its 3-0 loss to the Muskingum University Fighting Muskies in the opening round of the Ohio Athletic Conference Tournament, held at the Anne C. Steele Center on Tuesday, April 13.

Capital entered the conference tournament as the number eight seed after Ohio Northern University was dropped from postseason play due to instituted COVID-19 protocols. With the elevation into the tournament, Capital played top-seeded Muskingum University in the opening round.

Muskingum quickly proved its abilities as the number one seed, using its big-hitting potential against the Crusaders to deliver a 25-14 win in the first set. The Muskies hit 27.9 percent and held Capital to 9.6 percent on the offensive end. That trend continued as Cap's numbers lowered while Muskingum continued to improve, leading to a 25-17 victory in the second. In set three, Muskingum's attack percentage rose above 35 percent and Emma Dunham continued her strong play at the net behind a third straight set in which she was involved in two blocks.

Delanie Nahikian and Bradan Mast led Cap with five kills, each. Three Crusaders posted 10 or more digs including Paree Furness (10), Erin O'Connell (10) and Reagan Willoughby's team-leading 15.

Muskingum was led by Maddie McGee's 12 kills, six of which came in the first set. She collected a double-double by adding 16 digs, as well. Dunham finished with four solo blocks and two block assists, plus nine kills.

Capital finishes the spring 2021 campaign with an overall record of 1-18 and now breaks to prepare for a full fall season come August.
