ALLIANCE, Ohio – The Capital University women's tennis team opened the 2021 campaign with a win over the Purple Raiders of the University of Mount Union at the Alliance Country Club. The Crusaders were victorious, 6-3, following a big surge of success from the backend of the CU lineup.

Capital began the match with a 2-1 advantage coming out of doubles play when the combinations of Kelli Wright-Lovell and Josie Nichols plus Karen Kanke and Amy Wright-Lovell took wins on courts two and three. Nichols and Kelli Wright-Lovell worked overtime to win court two, 8-7, in a tiebreaker (7-5), while court three went down easily, 8-0.

Mount Union tied up the team score, 2-2, with a win in the top flight singles, and also took court three with ease. However, the rest of the match belonged to Capital. Kelli Wright-Lovell kept the momentum from her doubles match and earned the win on court two, 6-3, 6-2, over Emily Messina. Flights four, five and six all went to Capital with wins coming from Nichols (def. Sydney Scotford 6-0, 6-1), Amy Wright-Lovell (def. Taylor Fultz 6-0, 6-1) and Karen Kanke (def.
