COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Capital men's soccer team played a strong 90 minutes versus Mount Union on Sunday afternoon, giving up a penalty goal just before the first half expired to fall 1-0 and move to 2-3 on the season.

NEITHER GIVING AN INCH
  • Each squad showed up to play on the blustery day, fighting for every pass and shot that they could.
  • 20 minutes into the match, each team had just two shots, one of which clanged off the left goalpost for Mount Union and kept the game knotted up at 0-0.
  • The defense for both purple teams made it overly difficult for the offenses to get rolling and put together opportunities.
  • It was not until the 45th minute that the Purple Raiders drew a penalty kick that they were able to convert and go up by one goal at the halfway point.
  • At the start of the second half, Mitchell Hughes had a great look that was just bumped of target by the opposing keeper.
  • Substitutions poured in for both teams but even the fresh legs weren't enough to break the deadlock in the middle of the field, preventing Mount from increasing their lead and Capital from erasing it.
  • Feeling the pressure, the Crusaders mounted one final charge and with great ball movement were able to find the foot of Jack Francisco whose shot sailed into the arms of the waiting keeper.
  • At the 90 minute whistle, the score remained 1-0 in favor of the Purple Raiders.

KEY STATS
  • Huges tallied three shots on the day to lead the team, all of which were on goal.
  • Capital was held to seven shots for the match but also kept Mount Union to just 10.
