TIFFIN, Ohio – Capital University Men's Lacrosse made easy work of the Heidelberg University Student Princes in its 17-5 victory at Hoernemann Stadium on Saturday afternoon. Carson Kott had a career-best six point day while 10 Crusaders scored at least once.

Capital improved to 4-1 overall (2-1 OAC) with its victory over The Berg and now has strung together back-to-back wins on the road. The effort was backed by a trio of Cap players to post a hat trick and a total of 10 goal scorers.

Senior CJ Hughes (Cincinnati, Ohio/Walnut Hills) started the scoring off with a goal at the 8:43 mark of the first quarter. It also was the first of four goals that sophomore Evan Frund (Sewickley, Pa./Quaker Valley) was involved in. Following Hughes' score, Frund then rattled off three straight goals of his own in a span of just over three minutes. Hughes then scored a second time to bookend the first quarter and put Cap up 5-0 to close out the frame.

Heidelberg was held without a shot on goal and was outshot 17-4 and committed eight turnovers in the first quarter. The barrage continued in the second quarter with 16 more Capital shots to Heidelberg's 10. Though the Student Princes' shot totals increased, only one goal was scored. On the other end, Capital posted six more goals to take an 11-1 lead into halftime.

While the Crusaders continued scoring at will, freshman Carson Kott (Worthington, Ohio/Worthington Kilbourne) began racking up the assists. He tallied three in each half for a career-high six, total. Along the way, freshman Ian Michaud scored his first collegiate goal. The CU reserves earned significant playing time with the large lead leading to four additional goal scorers including freshman Mason Spaulding, who scored three goals in the second half.

Capital played four of its goalies over the course of the game. Ben Houser earned the win despite not making a save. Ryan Pierce, Nicholas Ferda and Sam McInturf all saw time in goal with McInturf leading all Cap goalies with three saves. Their counterpart, Heidelberg's Cian Howery, made 23 saves despite allowing all 17 goals.

Capital (4-1, 2-1 OAC) will now prepare to play its third straight road game on Saturday, March 27 in a nighttime affair in Alliance against the University of Mount Union Purple Raiders. Both teams will hit the X at 7 p.m. from inside Mount Union Stadium.
