UNIVERSITY HEIGHTS, Ohio – Capital University Women's Lacrosse took its first loss of the season at the hands of John Carroll University on Saturday afternoon, 17-11. Brooke Delara's seven-point game was not enough to overcome the Blue Streaks' offensive pressure put upon the Crusaders inside Don Shula Stadium.

HIGHLIGHTS AND RECAPS
  • After nine minutes of scoreless action, John Carroll struck first when Colleen Grombala scored back-to-back goals just 20 seconds apart. It was part of a 4-0 run in which Grombala scored three of those goals.
  • Junior Luci Kanowsky scored the first of her four goals when she and Brooke Delara connected at 18:09.
  • John Carroll responded with three more unanswered goals to take a 7-1 lead at the midway point of the first half.
  • The trio of Delara, Kathryn Walton and Dana Stover scored in succession to make for a three-goal game, but that was erased by a four-goal response by the Blue Streaks, which included two more Grombala goals. The run spanned over the last seven minutes of the first half and into the first minute of the second to take the score to 11-4.
  • Kanowsky, Delara and Brianna Rampi combined for another set of three goals to cut the lead to four, 13-9.
  • Four of the game's final four goals went toward the hosts, leading to a 17-11 final.
BY THE NUMBERS
  • John Carroll's best defense was its offense as it outshot Capital, 45-32, and landed nearly twice as many shots on frame (32-18).
  • The Blue Streaks dominated the draw, taking 24-of-30 draw controls over the course of the game.
  • Luci Kanowsky led the Crusaders with four goals, though Delara tallied the most points with seven (3-4-7).
  • Colleen Grombala scored nine goals and did so on just 10 shots taken. She also took in eight draw controls.
UP NEXT
Capital (4-1) now sits in a share for second place in the OAC while John Carroll improved to 6-0 and now is the league's only unbeaten team. The Crusaders will prepare for Ohio Northern University to come to Columbus on Wednesday, March 17. Game time is set for 7 p.m.
