Capital Offense Overpowers Heidelberg, 21-2, in Home Opener

COLUMBUS, Ohio – The Capital University women's lacrosse team played in Bernlohr Stadium for the first time in over a calendar year and did not disappoint, handily defeating Heidelberg 21-2 to remain unbeaten on the season at 4-0.

OVERPOWERING OFFENSE
  • Just over 30 seconds into the game, graduate Brianna Rampi scored the first of her six goals on the evening and the shots just continued to hit the mark for the Crusaders after.
  • Graduate Kat Walton, junior Luci Kanowsky and sophomore Dylan Smith all scored within the next five minutes of gameplay to push the lead up to 4-0.
  • By the 12 minute mark in the half, Capital had scored 11 times, four of which came from Kanowsky and three from Rampi.
  • Heidelberg did manage to net a goal themselves with 10 minutes left in the half to bring the deficit to 11-1.
  • In the waning minutes of the frame, Rampi, senior Dana Stover and Kanowsky scored to make it 14-1.
  • Out of the break, the scoring started to slow down as the Crusaders first goal came at the hands of Walton on the pass from Delara with 23:40 to play.
  • After five more goals from the Purple and White, Heidelberg managed their second of the contest but it was already far out of reach at 20-2.
  • With one minute to play, Rampi scored her sixth of the day to bring about the final of 21-2 at when the clock struck zero.

KEY STATS
  • Capital held Heidelberg to just 8 shots for the contest and put in 39 of their own.
  • The Crusaders were a perfect 10 of 10 on clear attempts.
  • The team totaled 31 points as eight different players recorded at least one goal.
  • Rampi paced the squad with six goals to go along with two groundballs.
  • Delara put together an eight point evening, scoring once but dishing out far and away a game high seven assists.
  • Walton and Kanowsky also recorded six points each with five goals and an assist.
  • Smith notched career highs in both goals with three and assists with two.
  • Lowry notched the first two goals of her career along with sophomore Haleigh McPhillips who scored her first goal.
