BEREA, Ohio – Capital University Women's Basketball struggled on the offensive end in its road loss to Baldwin Wallace University, leading to a 75-49 loss at Ursprung Gymnasium on Saturday night.
GAME NOTES
- Baldwin Wallace (5-3) ran out to a 25-10 lead after a productive first quarter. The Yellow Jackets shot 10-of-15 (.667) from the field and hit 5-of-10 3-pointers in the opening frame. Conversely, Capital shot just 30.7 percent from the field.
- Capital equaled its first quarter production and stepped up its defensive effort in the second, limiting BW to just nine points. Baldwin Wallace took a 34-20 lead into the locker room.
- While Capital's offense had its best output in the third quarter behind 17 points, Baldwin Wallace put together another 20-point quarter to counter. They repeated the effort in the fourth quarter, outscoring CU 20-12 in the final stanza.
BY THE NUMBERS
- Capital committed 14 turnovers and was unable to shoot better than 30 percent outside of the first quarter. They hit just 2-of-12 (.167) attempts from outside the arc in the game.
- Baldwin Wallace shot 45.9 percent from the field and hit 11-of-29 3-point attempts.
- The Yellow Jackets also recorded six blocked shots against the Crusaders and did not have any of its shots blocked.
- Nineteen of Capital's 47 points came from the free-throw line, and sophomore Gabby Ledbetter went 6-for-6 from the charity stripe to account for all her points.
- Juniors Emma Burns and Brooke Ommert shared the team lead with eight points and two steals.
- Sophomore guard Demi Brewer recorded six points and team-high nine rebounds off of the bench.
- Baldwin Wallace's Lilly Edwards dropped 26 points on 10-of-14 shooting and added 10 rebounds to complete the double-double.
- Sydney Snyder joined her teammate in double figures with 14 points, 12 of which came from 3-pointers.
UP NEXT
Capital (2-4) will prepare for next weekend's series against Ohio Northern University (4-4). The Polar Bears will host the Crusaders on Friday, February 19 in Ada, then come to The Capital Center the following evening for 6 p.m. home game.
