COLUMBUS, Ohio – Capital's men's hoops squad pulled off the season sweep of Baldwin Wallace on Saturday night, coming away with a 65-60 victory to get back to .500 on the season at 4-4. The Purple and White shook up the starting lineup once again tonight and the move paid off with another game in the win column.
CLOSE ALL THE WAY
- The Yellow Jackets drew first blood and started the game much like the night before, hitting a high percentage of their shots to take a 10-2 lead five minutes in.
- Capital then surged with an 11-point run to swing the lead back to the home team at 13-10 after made jump shots from Tyler Schreck and Reed Bradfield.
- Three minutes later at the 6:19 mark, the game was tied up at 17 and continued to go back and forth, neither team gaining an inch until the final minute.
- The Crusaders were able to take the lead on a three-point basket from David Sanford and run the floor for a Keandre Graves layup on a fast break to close out the first half up by three, 30-27.
DOWN TO THE WIRE
- The second period featured more close play, with Capital able to slightly increase its lead to five points on a Carter Combs fast break layup at 19:08.
- The Purple and White then began to methodically shove out the lead, getting as high as 12 on another Sanford three-pointer and then 13 later on after Joe Hartmann rattled in a jumper.
- The Yellow Jackets had their answer and dropped a 10-0 run of their own to bring them right back in it, down 55-53 with 3:53 to play.
- Good shots from Combs and Hartmann kept the Crusaders afloat and the dagger came at the hands of Griffin Doseck who broke a 60-all tie with a three-pointer and just 55 ticks on the clock.
- Capital's defense stood strong, forcing a contested three-point shot from Baldwin Wallace, then successfully keeping the ball out of their hands.
- Schreck was fouled with 21 seconds to play, drilled both ends of a one-and-one to seal the 65-60 victory.
