Seniors Carry Volleyball to a Sweep Over Wilmington

COLUMBUS, Ohio -- Wednesday evening could not have served as a better senior night for the four Capital University seniors Miranda Jordan, Jenay Kocsis, Delanie Nahikian and Erin O'Connell. Welcoming Wilmington College, the Comets cruised to a three set sweep to earn their first OAC win of the season and send the seniors out of the Capital Center for the last time on a high note.

Capital (6-14, 1-7 OAC) took the sets in order by scores of 25-13, 25-17, and 25-13. The loss dropped the Quakers to 3-23 overall and 0-8 in the conference.

As mentioned, the four seniors were all heavily involved in the result as all four started and all four led in several offensive and defensive statistical categories.

Nahikian paced the team offensively with nine kills and also contributed 13 digs and five block assists on the defensive side.

Kocsis dished out a team-high 19 assists and had four digs defensively.

Jordan chipped in with six digs and two service aces. Jordan now has 99 career service aces wearing the Purple and White.

O'Connell led all players with an incredible 20 digs in just three sets. Her sixth dig of the match in the second set lifted her over the 1,000 career dig milestone in her Capital career. O'Connell also served up six aces to give Capital a huge push in the third set.

Also contributing heavily in the Comets' dominant performance were Paree Furness, Larissa Smith, Bradan Mast, Alissa Holler and Caleigh Hamby. Furness chipped in with 12 digs, Smith pounded down eight kills and swatted back five total blocks, Mast and Holler each had five kills, and Hamby added five kills and three block assists.

In the match, Capital did well attacking the ball compiling a .203 hitting percentage on 37 kills, 13 errors and just over 100 attacks. Additionally, the Capital block was in full form helping hold the Quakers to a mere .016 hitting percentage. Capital accounted for 14 block assists as a team and Larissa Smith had the lone solo block near the end of the match.

Four Wilmington players had five kills each to pace their offense. Andie Dolven had 23 assists and Blake O'Brien had a team-best 17 digs.

The Capital seniors will have their last go around in a Capital uniform this Saturday at crosstown foes Otterbein. Capital will play two matches on Otterbein's campus, first at 11 a.m. against the hosts, and then again at 1 p.m. against Hiram College. The Comets will be playing for the newly re-established Oars which will be given to the winner of each Capital vs. Otterbein match-up this school year and beyond.
