WILMINGTON, Ohio -- The Capital University men's soccer team made the hour-long drive to Wilmington College this evening where they were on the wrong end of a narrow 1-0 final score.
The Comets, now 9-6-1 overall and 4-3-1 in the OAC, were even on shots with Wilmington at 10 each, but could not put one of their attempts past the Wilmington goalkeeper.
The hosts, 12-1-3 (5-1-2), got lucky on their shot in the 29th minute of play. Casey Miller got on the end of a pass from Brady Shapiro and put a shot past Capital goalkeeper
Landon Hoehn for the 1-0 first-half lead.
The lead proved to be a pivotal moment for the Quakers as Capital out-pressed them in the second half pushing for an equalizer. Unfortunately Felix Mauer and the Wilmington defense were equal to the task, stopping all four shots on goal by the Comets.
Hoehn was credited with five saves in the Capital goal -- a new career-high in just his fifth game of action.
Offensively for Capital
Sam Spirk and
Jarrett Puckett led the team with three shots each. Both Spirk and Puckett, along with
Matt Scheper and
Mujahid Abdel-Ghani all had one shot on goal. Abdel-Ghani was in action for the first time this season after sitting out most of the season with an injury.
Bryce Roberts led the Quakers with three shot attempts.
Capital will finish their season this Saturday, hosting No. 6 Otterbein University for a 7 p.m. kickoff. Prior to kickoff, the Comets will recognize eight seniors for their contributions to the program over the years --
