WESTERVILLE, Ohio -- The Capital University football team had a statement win this past Saturday with a 35-28 win over Ohio Northern University.

The Comets, who entered the game winless in the OAC since November of 2018, out-gained the hosts in total yardage and made their possessions count to grind out the win.

Sophomore quarterback Ben Everson took all snaps at QB for Capital and powered the team offensively, throwing for 351 yards and four touchdowns, a new career high in both categories. The effort lifted the Zanesville native to OAC Offensive Player of the Week accolades, as announced by the conference on Monday afternoon.

Everson connected on 18 of his 27 pass attempts in the game to tally his 351 yards and his four touchdowns, all of which were career bests for passes completed, passes attempted, passing yards, and passing scores. His longest pass of the day came on a 46-yarder to Noah Meeker. Everson got some help from his receivers as they came up with big plays all game long. Kameron Lee caught six passes for 128 yards and a touchdown, while Aralius Walters added four catches for 100 yards and another TD. Mike Smith was responsible for the other two touchdowns totaling 38 yards.

Everson will look to keep the energy going for Capital as they head into a big week hosting crosstown rival Otterbein this Saturday for a 1:30 p.m. kickoff. The game is Capital's Homecoming and Hall of Fame game, and is projected to return a large crowd to Bernlohr Stadium for the game. Fans are encouraged to arrive early for parking and to take part in pregame festivities on campus.
