Men’s Soccer Shutout by Polar Bears

ADA, Ohio -- On Saturday afternoon, the Capital University men's soccer team was upended by a final score of 3-0 to Ohio Northern University.

The Comets (9-5-1, 4-2-1 OAC), were outshot by a margin of 18-5 in the match and were undone by a flurry of three goals just eight minutes apart.

In the 32nd minute, Seth Gundlach bagged a goal off a feed from Levi King before doubling his and the team's tally just a minute and eight seconds later. On his second goal, Gundlach was assisted by Ryan Sommerfeld.

Six minutes after Gundlach's brace, ONU put the game completely out of reach with their third goal in quick succession. Brenden Gervers scored an unassisted strike for the Polar Bears to seal the deal.
The second half seemed to ride by without much going for either team. ONU took eight shots in the second 45, but only tested Capital's relief keeper Landon Hoehn twice. Capital only mustered the one shot attempt in the second stanza, not phasing John Lombardo in the ONU net.

All-in-all, Capital pairing of Connor Sexton and Hoehn collected four saves, while Lombardo had just two saves.

Sam Spirk, Jarrett Puckett, and Colton Daugherty were all credited with shots on goal in the match for Capital.

The Comets will look to rebound as they continue to battle for OAC Tournament seeding this coming Wednesday as they visit one-loss Wilmington College. Kickoff at the home of the Quakers is scheduled for 7 p.m. on the 27th.
